Developed by Tom Bowen of Australia in the 1960s and 1970s, this hands-on, light-touch body therapy consists of gentle rolling movements over muscles, tendons or nerve sheaths. The gentle moves on soft tissue stimulate energy flow, empowering the body's own resources to balance and to heal itself. The work consists of a series of precise moves on specific points of the body. These moves are light and can be done through clothing. There are frequent and important pauses between each series of moves giving the body time to benefit from each. The technique uses positive moves that initiate a positive energy flow and negative moves that isolate this energy to a specific area. BOWTECH allows the body to heal itself with minimal intervention in contrast to other hands-on disciplines. Originally intended to help people all ages suffering from musclar-skeletal problems, Bowen Technique is not limited to just those but extends to the emotional, cognitive and spiritual aspects of the individual concerned.
